A Spiritual Practice

The word “spirit” is a Latin word meaning “breath.” Breath is the essence of all living beings. So, in Green Psychology, we view all living—breathing beings—as spiritual beings. If we live our lives in such a way that we respect spirit—all living beings—then we consider ourselves to be living spiritual lives. Green Psychology helps us be respectful because it eliminates violence and victims. The way we use language reduces our tendency to be judgmental, to tell others about them, or to think that others are telling us about ourselves. This is a very different way of being in the world, a way that engenders equanimity and kindness. The result is greater respect, for ourselves and for others. Our spiritual practice is embodied in the way we use language, not compartmentalized to a limited period of time, such as during sitting meditation. Perceptual Language is alive in us and keeps us awake all day long.

I believe the work of Green Psychology, by it’s principles of spiritual acceptance, compassion, and non-judgment creates an arena for transition and change.

Having done many workshops on more ‘spiritual growth’ I thoroughly enjoyed myself in this one, because I am linking Freud with Buddha. Yes, they are all about unconditional love, compassion and the present moment, but where can one actually EXPERIMENT freely and under safe and supportive, professional guidance with these ‘high ideals’ – and therefore setting free our own painful limitations/traumas?
