About Us
We met in 1990 when Jake was in New Mexico, studying with his mentor at that time, Nelson Zink. Nelson invited both of us to participate in a fire walk…not the kind of thing we usually do. But we went, we connected, we walked over the hot coals, and then Jake headed back to his home in Vermont to say goodbye to one stage of his life before moving to Santa Fe in 1991 and starting a new stage.
A year after we first met we went on our first date. Jake recalls, “I started falling in love with Hannah half way through that lunch date, just after she looked at me and asked me to remind her of my name.” We continued dating for a year and then we lived together for another year. During that time we were receiving couples counseling because we didn’t know how to create a healthy partnership, which was our priority.
We married in 1993. Since that time we’ve demonstrated to ourselves that marriage can be easy. Actually this is one of our strong beliefs…that intimate relationships can be easy and a source of renewal. In 1998 we hooked up with John and Joyce Weir, a wonderful elderly couple, mentors who became friends. As a result of meeting the Weirs, who had been working together as a married couple, teaching workshops for the past fifty years, we too started teaching workshops. Our work has evolved into Green Psychology, which is the basis of all the programs we teach today.
